In an age where Gods ruled over man and make their presence known through out the world, dominating those that dare question their power. However it seems that the Gods can't keep things under control without the help of a mortal to keep things in order. Introducing to you God of War Chains of Olympus for the PSP where Kratos returns in this prequel set before he went against the gods, instead he was a slave to them. Even though he is portable doesn't mean he can't keep things bloody. Keep on reading to see this eye popping review!

This is the long a waited prequel telling how Kratos was made to serve the Gods before trying to tear them a new one if you know what I mean? You are pitted against Morpheus who is haunting you with your dreadful past especially the murder of your family. To give you the short version the Sun has been knocked out of the sky and Morpheus has blackened the earth setting off evil minions. Your task is to save Helios and set the Sun back to its proper place. Yes this is a messed up situation and Kratos is already in a bad mood.

All right let us get down to the technical aspect. Even though there is no second analog stick, the controls are very smooth, which make it easier to function. The top shoulder buttons pressed at the same time will activate your evade roll. The buttons separately are used for your magic ability and block option. The face buttons are your attacks and jumps. If you combine the magic button with square or triangle you can perform special magic moves. The start and select buttons is menu/pause; in the menu option you can upgrade your abilities and weapons. Just having all of these abilities for such a small game shows how much potential the PSP has.

The game is visually impressive which as I stated before shows how far the PSP can go as a hand-held system. If you look closely there is full voice acting which is always a plus instead of having to read text all the time. There are straight CGI cut -scenes with no glitches or frame problems. I am stunned how this could be a great contender to the PS2 version and even starring at the backgrounds and landscapes are remarkable.
There are some funny bits in the game, for example: the Sex mini game that debuted and caused some controversy in the first game and yes you can do it as many times as you want. The puzzles are a bit challenging, but not enough to make you want to get frustrated and destroy the system. I would have to thank the developers for having the best camera angles in a game. That is greatly appreciated in many games so I give you much kudos for making that happen.

The combat system feels like a good old fashion button mash with some combo's that can be easily conducted with an added juggle move with the grab button. You can have your enemies bouncing around like YO YO's after giving them a serious beaten. With the addition of the higher level enemies you can do an ultimate finishing move with button sequences. That indeed is one of the sweetest things that made God of War most impressive and deadly. Even on a small screen the fatal killings executed in the game are still visually outstanding.
The only thing I see wrong with the game is that it is short lived and I don't mean you can beat it in less than five hours - I would say a two day game tops. That can be passed buy once you realize that you have other modes to conquer and treasures to unlock. Once you unlock GOD mode, that is where the game really shines and you will appreciate the challenge even more.
Now we enter the summary. You have your half naked women, a cursed Spartan trying to find piece of mind with god like abilities facing off against hordes of soldiers and demons of all shapes and sizes. The controls work really well especially since it has to adapt to a PSP with only one analog stick. The cinemas and voice acting is amazing and I am particularly impressed that the frame rate is solid. The only thing is the game is a bit short but that can change with the different difficulties. It is a hand-held and action game at that. To wrap this all up I have to say after a long wait and finally engaging the full potential of this game on the PSP the Gods have shaken the heavens and brought us something amazing. I will give God of War Chains of Olympus 5 Gorgon Eyes out of 5.
