Could Groovin Blocks Be The Next Lumines?

groovin_blocks_icon.jpg

One of our favorite games for the PSP, even after all these years, is still Lumines. That quirky puzzle game brought together the dual joys of hypnotic music and matching blocks in one highly addictive package. A new game from Sony Computer Entertainment for the PSN looks like it could provide similar amounts of joy on the PS3 console. Groovin' Blocks just launched today on the PSN for the price of $9.99, and it promises to take the music/puzzle genre an additional step further. With over 50 unique levels and 20 original songs, Groovin' Blocks is also pretty good value for the money for puzzle game fans. Right now the title is only available for the PS3 console, but if it does well, this would be an ideal candidate for a PSP conversion. Make it happen, Sony!

Groovin' Blocks starts off pretty much like your average Tetris clone: players must match three or more gems to make them disappear. In Lumines, the music shifted according to the pace of the matching. In Groovin' Blocks, keeping track of the music is actually important to gameplay. For more points, users can explode gems to the beat of the music and those who keep their groove going until the end of a song without letting the gems touch the top will advance to the next level. Players collect stars along the way to unlock 15 levels of power-ups.

Groovin' Blocks features three skill levels, ranging from casual to hardcore, and two multiplayer options. You'll be able to challenge friends in local co-op or against them in a local head-to-head mode.
