Better Late Than Never? Review: Spiderman 3

spiderman3~Spider-Man-3-Posters.jpg

Greetings web fans of all ages! For thsoe of you that were wondering why Spider-man 3 was not ported to the PSP, well wonde rno more because it has finally swung onto the PSP handheld this month. Since this game came out already in early spring, the question still remains. What took them so long to distribute S3 to the PSP? Well this is the place to figure it out true believers. So if your afraid of heights, please grab a sick bag and get ready to swing into this review of Spiderman 3.

Some of you might know the story already. It is a perfect life for Peter Parker and Mary Jane, even though he is a broke photographer. As things are going well Spidey/Peter is starting to get a swelled head about being a superhero which means responsibility is replaced by being praised as a hero. New villains start to pop up in the city and the only thing on the web heads mind is if they got his good side on the pictures? The story is just the same as the console versions and competing with the other handheld system I would prefer this because it is as if you are playing on the PS2.

You will start off the game learning the moves of spiderman himself just like the console fighting off those bomb villains in a fire engulfed building. Once you finish saving the people and hear Bruce Campbell give you lip, you finally are back in the city where you start your swinging journey. I have to say that even though there is not a second analog stick, the controls are fluid. Right trigger is your web swing, triangle is hard punches, Left trigger combined with triangle activates your sense to dodge, square is medium, X is your jump button and circle combined with the d-pad is your web attacks. The "Select" button drops you in the map area where you have monitor all the gang and villain activity in the city just like the console versions.

The missions are pretty straight forward and some what easy too do, but I do find it difficult to find the places you need to go without a proper radar system. The voice acting is done really well with all the stars and of course your narrator Bruce Campbell giving you instructions and funny comments on your heroism.

The graphics are stunning for a psp port, especially with the freeroam feature, but since they did shrink the GTA games down to the handheld it is no surprise for spiderman 3. Nothing seems special about the game so far or rather I should say different. Once you do get the costume you can switch back and forth at will but with a price if you stay in the symbiote suit too long as in the PS2 version.

The combat is okay, but you will feel bored after a while beating on repetative A.I. Too be honest to the readers if they ported this back when the other games were released, there would be a far amount of interest. So why the wait?

Let us recap shall we? We have great graphics, good storyline, action with good combat controls, free roam through the city of New York, and able to morph back and forth between suits. Down fall is since the game came out way too late, it will leave you bored a bit and expecting something more to the game. Even though all the controls are there for spiderman, still can be a bit aggravating to remember the button sequences. Next time please be more prompt with games, the sales will be much better. I give spiderman 3 for the psp 3 web balls out of 5.

Genre:3D Action
Developer:Treyarch
Publisher:Activision
Pros:Stroyline is action packed, swinging around the city and free roaming, massive villains. Of course you have a portable symbiotic suit and you can upgrade the web head with points earned.
Cons:Too little and too late to keep interested. Pretty much similar with the PS2 port just shrunken for travel size.
PSP world rating:3 web balls out of 5.
