PSP Go Specifications and Pictures

psp_go_icon_real.jpg

It didn't take long after news of the PSP Go leaked onto the web for more information to emerge. Sony has been setting up its display booths at E3, and close-up pictures of the PSP Go have already surfaced (view below). There are still many unanswered questions about the device, for which we will have to wait for Sony's E3 press conference on June 3. However, we have managed to gather some juicy information on the official specs of the PSP Go. It will be smaller and lighter than even the PSP 3000. It will also come packed with an impressive 16GB of storage for all those downloaded games and movies. One thing we aren't happy with is the plastic used on the front casing, which appears to be of the same cheap variety used on the recent PSP 2000 and 3000 revisions. The rest of the device does look like a lusty piece of electronics gear, so we will reserve final judgement until the machine ships later this fall.

PSP Go! Specifications:

  • 3.8" screen
  • 43% lighter than previous version
  • 16 GB on-board flash memory
  • Bluetooth support
  • No UMD drive
  • Memory Stick Micro support
  • Download games and movies via Playstation Store
  • Single analog stick

Looks like screen is smaller... 4.3"(Psp 3000) vs 3.8" (Psp Go). I'll stick with my PSP lite thank you.

    Smaller is not the answer.

I was hoping for a totally new PSP with enhanced graphics, brighter/clearer screen and a nicer design. But I'm liking *this* more and more for its small and simple design. What exactly does this new model of PSP offer under the hood? I'm guessing nothing except maybe a higher pixel density LCD screen.

wow...i have an old psp 2000 but this is the most high tec gaming system i ever saw!!!!

    Sony man

     - June 2, 2009 4:44 PM

It's called 'PSP Go' and that explains why it's smaller than PSP3000. Lets wait and see what it really holds.

it might not be that bad. it sounds good, a little lighter and you dont have to have umds. all i wish it had was touchscreen and a better proccessor speed but what can you do. i wont be getting rid of my touch or psp1000 for it sense its plays off of a memstick, but i will get one to have just for fun.

This looks amazing. I dont see what isnt "sexy" about it. I am loving the looks.

     - June 2, 2009 8:46 PM

I'm not sure about not having any Umds. seems kinda sketchy. I wish it were touchscreen and a bigger screen but then that would rule out the Go part. I think I'll stick with the 1000 and the 3000 versions. At least until more info is released to us.

Put a second anolog stick where the start/select buttons are SONY when will you learn to please your fan base? This product would KILL the DS and ipod in sales if A. there was a sandbox SDK for apps. B. it had a multitouch touch screen WITH A STYLUS C. >>>second analog stick<<< D. firefox browser w/ Adobe flash and java support E. upgrade in graphics from psp 3000 and if they did all of the above, and they put a phone in it, with 3g... with the right marketing, it could outsell the iphone, making sony # 1 in portable games, and all the publicity they would be getting from the psp go would translate into more sales of unrelated sony products. Why doesn't sony get this?

I`m pissed off that they are bringing out a new variation of the current PSP family. Bring out a new console with new games, new equipment... Dont keep re inventing the wheel! Stop fucking about, sort it out Sony you chicken heads

    Brad

     - June 4, 2009 8:38 AM

Does Sony only want to sell it's PSP Go games online? Probably they'll sell less than they already do on PSP Must we all hook it up to a PS3 to buy games? In Europe they dont intent to sell PsStore credits on cards in stores. Major setback for all retailers in Europe.

     - June 6, 2009 11:22 AM

Yo, just reading the reviews. Right, the kid that was on about naking it do everything made me laugh! By any chance did you want it to make you lunch aswell!? wow its smaller, don't cry about it! if you want a bigger screen to play playstation games on buy a HD tv and a ps3 and sit at home! The idea is that its portable, there not going to make a portable games console that doesn't fit in your pocket! Agree with the second analog stick though! Been waiting for that idea since the first psp! Last point, if its running everything of memory M2 it will probably have a high processing speed anyway!

    Deora

     - June 6, 2009 10:41 PM

WHAT ???... No second analogue stick ???... smaller screen!!! ???... No UMD Drive ??!?... Purchase games online ??? No Thanks... I'll stick to my modded PSP 1000.

how the hell are you supposed to play games on it???? 'tarded

    bluemary1014

     - June 7, 2009 2:19 AM

Yeah looks cool because it slides. DUH! what is cool about being sliding in the first place? d-pad and analog stick are too close and that the analog looks a bit deeper. the actions buttons and d-pad are also deep, playing games like Tekken 6 and Monster Hunter Unite might spoil the fun since it looks like it will break. How come Sony likes to fail its fans?

     - June 9, 2009 1:03 AM

wish it have keyboard and sim card slot for messaging so it can be the best all in one gadget

     - June 9, 2009 2:42 AM

I reckon its a improvement on the 3000series BUT it doesnt have the UMD which sucks and also smaller screen. It is smaller screen because it is to increase portability, psp GO, meaning for playin on the go. I was hoping for a MUCH better psp, touch screen, similar screen size, internal memory at least 32gb, i mean ipods have 100+GB. I like the design, nice and sleek but needs to be TINY bit bigger and have touch screen.

    Eric

     - June 9, 2009 9:38 PM

Wow, I'm actually debating this I mean I own a psp 1000 it was great 2 years with it, now Here comes the psp go, but Idk no umd? (this also means if you modded your psp, no more iso games as of now because remember only way to play iso games off the memory stick was to have a umd in or it would not work) Also Sliding Mechanism are know to break....Screen size is cool, It's nice it's not so wide spread anymore but...I think I'll leave this one alone for a while.

    ty

     - June 10, 2009 9:25 PM

damn I was really hoping there would be a second analogstick. I guess I will wait this one out, sleek design though. Give that a second analog stick and a touchscreen, and you would dominate. I didn't realize the psp has skype, that is awesome. Great memory on the go to.

    Rico

     - June 13, 2009 12:16 AM

Developers listened to us??? Who the hell asked for this crap? Internal memory, now I can't switch memory sticks, smaller screen size, & no dual analog sticks. Really, who wanted this? PSP Go --> to hell.

    PSP Go

     - June 14, 2009 4:52 PM

It looks good, i like the idea of games on the flash memory, but will sony come up with a way of getting umd games and films we currently own onto the go?

    Dark-Xyster

     - June 15, 2009 6:03 PM

My opinion is, it would make a great first psp, like all the other ones, or even a good upgrade from the very first one. Thing is its still a PSP, like all the others, and they didnt do too much on it to make it different. All I could think of when I heard download was mods and custom firmware though, almost no point in using it as a psp if you have the older one.

    emmanuel

     - June 16, 2009 9:35 PM

am i the only one here excited about the fact that now i dont have to carry around umd's? seriously they are a hassle. this psp go is just the stylish handheld i needed. absence of the second analog is very disappointing. but on the other hand 40% smaller is awesome. heres the issue no one here has touched on. you all probably own a psp. you all own umds. if you get the psp go what happens to your umds? rendered useless? thats alot of lost money. if we're lucky sony will figure out a way to port the umds to the psp go. other than that i fully intend on getting it. YAY PSP GO :D

    Jay

     - June 17, 2009 3:39 PM

the psp go is cool but Im afraid the sliding is a jack up feature although the memory has a lot of space but who the crap would want to pay 250 for a mini version of a laptop & by the way paying for downloadable games sucks

    dwade

     - June 18, 2009 8:14 AM

to all you guys who are complaining remember this is still a psp not a psp2 sony is probably saving the second anolog stick and camera for the real psp2 to suprize you.

hey i have 249 how do i get a psp go!

    jeffry

     - June 20, 2009 7:23 PM

ok...now the psp go is good in it being a mini multimedia device. but for holding games you probably have about 15 with it 16 gb memory. then think about music, foto, videos, movies. i dont think thats enough Gigs for us user who likes all the above need about 50gb or +...sony rally gots to put there media live into ours and see how WE drive the thing. not how they picture themselfs using it. and yes a cam on board would of been good, a second analog, and touch screen. i would quit using my PC or laptop if it had all this. o and just so you know when Walmart or gamestop start selling PSP go games there will be sold to you with a data cable from there side where the games are stored to your psp go. who know maybe they'll be much cheaper...

    Huey

     - June 22, 2009 2:40 AM

Dont care bout u guys who want a touch screen and more gigs get a damn ipod touch if u want a touch screen or get a 16 gig M2 and shut yer mouths i think its an inprovement

    DEFyance

     - June 24, 2009 12:41 AM

hmm...they made the screen smaller and still no right analog, but it seem to have added some more useful hardware like 16GB flash memory in the PSP, not bad.

    Bunk

     - June 24, 2009 2:08 PM

Well all i can say about this new psp go. Is i do like the fact it has on board 16 gig and blue tooth. and a lil lighter. but it still looks a lil round no touch screen same speed processor But maybe with will be worth while. But would have been better to see sony come out with another bad a game. but i guess we have to wait till 2020. Thanks sony!

psp go looks very brittle. not a fan of the slide. good thing sony will continue releasing umd's. out of all the designs created by the fans, gotta say that this one looks the least attractive

for the record i was anticipated this new one...but no camera...slide up thing is cool...integrated memory is good but def. shud be changeable like earlier series...buying games online is pretty difficult for people w/o internet...i can just buy new sticks for 3000 and a 3000 actually fits in my pocket...i wrote this with my psp 3000...and gonna stick with it

     - July 14, 2009 2:09 PM

This looks pretty cool. Jeffery is right. I used to have a PSP 1000 but it broke. Anyways, hauling around the UMD's was a big pain. I like the idea of 16 gb of onboard memory. And for all you people saying that's not enough, go and complain SOMEHWERE ELSE!

    PSPFAN

     - July 14, 2009 11:07 PM

By the way, will PSP go have the ability to use Adobe 6 like the previous models?

    Antonio

     - July 15, 2009 5:36 AM

1st to the people who won't bet the idea of the current PSP having another analog stick and touch screen get that out of your head once and for all. Sony is like all gaming systems are still in it's current generation of gaming to add another stick and touch screen would be introducing developers to new ways of making games for the PSP making gaming to the owners of the 1000, 2000, and 3000 S.O.L., they wouldnt be able to play the games. Those are features for the PSP2, even though the DSi has a camera, no games will come out using that feature because it would isolate DS and DS Lite owners. As far as people wanting a phone, go get a phone, plus the PSP has Skype. As far as all this memory theres a reason why it uses memory stick micro's, so you can expand on the memory, if you people don't know buy now Sony has never been a brand for the cheap, so if your cheap don't be a Sony customer, cause if you haven't figured out, this bad boy is gonna need it's own accesories too.

     - July 16, 2009 1:06 PM

where do you put the camera? why did they not use the material used in the psp 1000 cover?

    James Moss

     - July 19, 2009 1:37 AM

you guys shut up and give sony a chance like that dude said sony will not put a camera on a psp and if they did add another analog stick it would mess up the psp 1000 2000 3000 users gaming expeirince so you haters just shut up stop acting like babies come on

    dare

     - July 22, 2009 9:32 AM

stop complaining !!!!!!! its fine the design is sick, it has 16 gb so you dont have to go and spend 50 bucks on memory sticks, it could have a UMD but over all its freaking awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Chris

     - July 24, 2009 8:57 PM

I don't know what all of you are complaining about, but this thing seems like the exact thing for me. have a few gigs of music, some movies, and a few games, and that thing would entertain me for hours. depends on the battery life though i guess. i'll be sure to pick one up when they're released.

    mustangboy

     - July 28, 2009 9:31 PM

i like everything about it except for the UMD drive, there isn't one ??

    Nightmare

     - July 29, 2009 8:38 PM

If Sony changes the hardware and/or the button layout the games should not be supported on PSP100,2000 and 3000 systems and I think that's a good idea

    vince jones

     - July 31, 2009 7:07 PM

    NO UMD hmmmmm

    EvilPhD

     - August 4, 2009 1:25 AM

I do not like this direction. Do not understand how making the screen smaller, killing UMD, and the whole slide thing... very uncomfortable, very unnatural for a gamer. Do not care about bluetooth. Bluetooth is an EXPENSIVE overpriced technology. Not justified in the cost. The $100 price tag over the PSP is not justified in a smaller, more cramped design with less versatility. I am not going to buy this.

    KO KO

     - August 6, 2009 12:43 AM

ALL OF U GUYS QUIT complaining IT BETTER THEN THE PSP1000'2000'3000. THE SONY GUYS U ROCK.

will the new psp go have skype and also would it have a camera

    Spiceonion

     - August 8, 2009 11:17 AM

The PSP would have been ruined if it had touch screen..if u want touch buy iphone or something.........second of all it should have a better processor (that's the most important thing for me)....and third,it sould have a second analog stick in the area of Select-Start button...then it would be PERFECT!!!!

    corey

     - August 10, 2009 2:59 AM

jesus christ kevin....you already want a new console....they wont come out with a new console (PS4?) anytime soon..you seem to be one of those people who had eveything handed to you with a silver spoon...learn to wait

     - August 13, 2009 7:21 AM

I would have thought people would have noticed this by now but reading your post have shown me that you all haven't. Its very clear here that the PSP GO is actually not great at all due to one thing all the screen size, and tech specs, put all that aside and pay attention to the fact that I can go to gamestop right now and buy God Of War: Chains of Olympus for 7.99 thats it 7.99 pretty much 8 bucks and with PSP GO do you honestly think they will sell a game like that for that price or any game for that amount I got Daxter for 3.00 at the pawn shop LOL I see Daxter going for at least 15.00 to 20.00 on PS STORE sony is trying to kill second market and this little device will tell them there future of this process everybody who buys into this will be a 250.00 spending guinea pig/lab rat to see if the idea sticks around for future use or will be dumped soon enough have fun paying 20.00 or 30.00 dollars for a game that will cost 10.00 or maybe even 5.00 at second market. LOL Nice try sony but im not the one. Seen your idea from day one but you aint gonna practice with my money, use the rest of these peeps..LOL man.......

    psp 1000^_^

     - August 14, 2009 11:45 PM

is the psp go gonna be able 2 take old umd disks and turn them into a digital form? If any1 finds anything plz tell? i need 2 no!

No second analog stick = useless piece...

    curggles

     - August 24, 2009 1:38 AM

The least sony could do is sell games on memory sticks A portable machine you should be able to get games for where every you are and face it you can't have an internet connection where ever you are the umd may be clumsy but atleast they are available at stores. I Think the psp 1000 2000 and 3000 are way better than the go the only other thing I wish is if they put handles similar to ps3 controllers on the units I have big hands and find the psp a little hard to hold and play if it was more shaped like a controller then it would sit in your hands alot nicer.

    phillmybuttercupwithsauce

     - August 24, 2009 8:06 AM

this is a nice bit of kit although the lack of umd is going to put a lot of people off, why is gaming heading to the pay-per-play theme. id rather pay £20 for something physical to hold in my hand then a download which may be corrupt/wrong version/fails at 99%/can be deleted easily! and to the guy who was aksing about the second anologue stick and add a phone to it to rival the iphone, they didnt do this cos sony cant do phones, hence why they hijacked ericson to make phones for em under sonys name. sony makes consoles, good ones....not phones or multifinction comm devices. im looking forward to the see what they sell like and how gackable they are, i would imagine they have removed the pandora ability from the batt and maybe some kind of software wares lock so you cant download from unsigned sony sites and they would log your serial at every oppurtunity. to all the modders out there, make this bitch cry when you hack it! let us add our own games from our personal collection! peace out mofo

    Pyrotech00

     - August 24, 2009 11:47 AM

I think this is a waste of money. I can carry quite a bit more psp games in a small case than that console can hold in it. Not to mention...hello...I have already put money into psp games...No Umd drive...Sony has lost their marbles.

    I_OWN_A_PSP_2000,_LUV_GAMING_N_AM_A_GIRL!_SO_WUT!!!!!

     - August 24, 2009 10:04 PM

OMG THIS PSP SUCKS AZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!MY PSP 2000 IS BETTER!!WAY BETTER! You wouldn't really expect something like that from Sony.Plus it's ugly. It looks like a Portable PlayStation1 lol. The features are crap and i bet the graphics are like PS1 graphics too lol.Who would want to buy psp games online!!? I cant even get any online, NOW!! Wow......you have disgraced us all, Sony. :(

    erik johnson

     - August 31, 2009 12:13 AM

you can send in your old umds to sony and they will put it on a memory stick to copy to the hard drive

    Rashad

     - September 8, 2009 2:58 PM

it is awsome , lighter , more convienient for size so it fits in your pocket easier and you dont have to worrie about getting games , just download them while in use of the psp go and the memory is more than enough AND you can add extra. up to 32gb and there is online with the bluetooth support instead of the headset which i find kinda weird because it is attached to the psp. the graphics are outstanding like a PS3 and you can still use the headset if you still prefer. if you want the psp go but have a psp with games but short on cash. go on kijiji and sell it right away , sell all the games , then the psp alone and make $100 at minimum and i love the slide feature and go on to google and see the white psp go. it is outstanding with looks. thank you

No Go ! What´s this ? The price and specs totaly a robery, no inovation and all just design, obsolet object indeed if it´s made these days. No umd drive for those who have lots of psp umds and can´t play them on the GO. Bad move by SOny as usual, the only good thing is that it won´t sell and price will drop very soon before Christmas. Wouldn´t pay more than $100 for this big piece of "tech". Remenbers me the PS360Gb and PS340Gb ? more of the kind ... keep us entretained ... yeah.

Calm down people! Sony makes good hardware, we all know that. Let's wait and see how the Go integrates with the PSN store and your PS3's and then judge... I have a feeling it's going to be bad a$$!!! I also like the fact that you can add extra memory using Micro SDHC. Nice. No fixed memory here like the iPod touch or phone

    PSP not go

Sony not going anywhere with this. Design is nice, I understand the concept of being small for portable efficiency. PSP is already that. This device is not that much smaller plus I'm sure many of us will have protective covers which will end up not in anyone's pocket but their bags. Sony's portable concept? Pointless... Design isn't bad... no UWD? Buying from online? Sony don't think about Hackers? First thing is going to happen when PSP GO comes out is HACKED! Aside from above. I believe they should keep the current 4.3" screen size, w/UWD optional, at least 32GB Storage, extra storage slot, replaceable battery, 16M color res, 600mhz processor, Wi-Fi 7.3mbps, no camera (take a pic w/your damn phone). ofc this can run for 300bucks, but hell i'd buy it.

ok i like the looks but if u can't play the older psp games like Dissidia for example which i have over 70 hours on does sony just to expect me to buy the game again just so i can continue to play the gamei think sony should add the umd drive again

Guess what if you search about you can get a PSP-1000 - 3000 with a adapter that can support up to 32gb of storage. Here is the problem...how big are the d/l going to be for this console and what about swapping games on the go that you have the rights to download but damn not enough space. This PSP can GO away with all the problems I can see in the future. Staying with my fat boy 32gb of storage. Follow this link if anyones interested in buying this kind of adapter. http://pspupdates.qj.net/64-GB-mem-storage-in-PSP-possible-via-PhotoFast-card-adapter/pg/49/aid/120881

this psp is just plain weird i like my 1000 and it is almoast idistructable i dont care about carrying around umds and i cannot get on the internet wirelessly anyway and i like the thick ness of my 1000 idont like the thickness of the 2000, and 3000 because it is too thi and hurts my hands the ds is to sharp on the corners and a slimmer smaller psp will just anoy me , the screen looks like it would snap off if someone dropped it while playing it why cant thy just stick with the old shape and just put in extra features insted of shrinking it then it will definently out sell the DSi

Looks nice and having no usd drive is ok for me I guess, cause I donload games from the internet, but I totally HATE how Sony positioned the analog stick, it won't be comfortable for most peple to play most games, and the 3.8 inch screen comparedto the 4.3 of the 1000, 2000 and the 3000 psps, sos I guess I will just get the psp 3000 for chrismas I guess...

It is smaller, with no UMD drive which is ok by me. The analog stick is in a weird spot though. 16 gigs of built in memory which is awesome. And I'm surprised nobody has figured this one out yet. If it has bluetooth, and is compatible with the ps3 controller, why not the little bluetooth qwerty keypad for the ps3? I wouldn't doubt it. Small, easily portable, wireless so you don't have to stick it to the psp, and already in existence. If I had the extra $300 just lying around right now to get the new psp and the keypad, I'd jump on it. Try it out.
