PSP Go Priced and Dated

psp_go_hands_icon.jpg

One of the highlights of Sony's press conference at E3 was the upcoming PSP Go. Even though news of the device was leaked on Qore days before the official presentation, the pint-sized PSP still managed to steal the early part of the show with its svelte design and impressive features. The PSP Go is confirmed to include 16 GB of on-board flash storage for games and media, Bluetooth support to sync with headsets, and support for Memory Stick Micro (M2) in the unlikely event that customers ever run out of storage space. It will also be accompanied by a more intuitive media manager for the PC called Media Go. This software is said to make dragging and dropping media into the PSP more user-friendly, which is definitely a good thing if the company wants to compete with other manufacturers like Apple and Microsoft.

If there is a cloud beneath all of this silver lining, it is undoubtedly the price. Sony revealed that the PSP Go will cost $249 USD and 249 Euros when it lands in shops this October 1st. Many had been expecting Sony to come closer to the current PSP model pricing with this unit, but evidently the smaller form factor and on-board memory comes at a cost premium (even with the subtraction of the UMD drive).

Will consumers rush out to buy the PSP Go? Our gut reaction is that this expensive piece of gear will be a success with hardcore technophiles only, until the price finds its way below $200. Since all future game releases will arrive on both UMD and the Playstation Store simultaneously, there is simply not enough reason for existing PSP owners to upgrade. We, of course, will be there on day one.

Nice, but i won't be buying one with me already having and loving my PSP, plus with other goodies like the Wii, 360 and PS3 i have yet to afford to buy, why would I spend 250 on yet another PSP? Maybe they forgot we're all broke over here.

What will I do with all my old UMD disks? Seriously, will I not be able to play GoW and GTA on the PSP Go?

I think sony never listen to the people who actually buy there products, they spend way to much time trying to attract new customers. As a result they failed completly to address the issues that we all thought obvious in the begining of psp. 1.Not only did they neglect to give us a second analog stick they actually made the one we have worse! 2. where r the r2+l2 buttons aswell 3. once again just like the ps3, the people of europe have to pay more for prob less. So f@(% u sony stick ur new psp up ur hole.

Love the internal storage, bluetooth, and design(will fit my jeans better). Disappointed they did not add camera, gps(for navigation), n I for one don't like to hunt for wifi hotspots.

It doesnt have a usb port doesnt have umd drive doesnt have second analog stick doesnt have camera doesnt have r2 and l2 buttons the screen is smaller bett it laggs like hell so the only thing i would rip out and put into my psp 2000 is the 16 gig hard drive and the blue tooth o by the why the hard drive only being 16 gigs give me a break dam i-pod is small and they have bigger then a 16gig hard drive in them i was mad when the psp came out almost six years ago with out these things so i look at my ps3 and it just an over size psp Thanks sony

No camera?no serious apps. Why wouldn't sony integrate the mylo and psp into one. i would like to use my psp for more than just games! come on sony get it together!Guess i'll wait for the new ipod touch with camera. Sony has wasted my time and money long enough.

Does everyone realize that Sony is ripping you off? The people that say 'I want it,I want it' don't you see there is nothing new to the new PSP go?! All it is a waste of money, only 16 gig hard drive? No way to use UMD's that everyone has bought if you have the older psp's,no L and R buttons no second anolog stick, the screen is smaller, If your going to spend 250 something dollars on an item you might as well get a IPOD touch ( I personally do not like the whole IPOD craze but if I had to choose I would rather the IPOD touch then this for the money!!) no camera, no GPS system...It's as if sony is just trying to make money on everyone from just making it look "cool" rather then really giving the real gamers what they want/need...They can count me out..

How uncomfortable does this look to play for a long while? Sometimes I get thumb cramps now. It'll be like texting on a phone.

its a nice design though, atleast i expected to see an webcam or touchscreen or something alike... besides, what am i goin to do with my older UMDs? just throw it away?? i paid more for those UMDs than for my PSP-3000.

My chinesce tution teacher is getting this for me when it comes out. I think the design and 16 GB is more than enough for me.
