JavoEdge JavoSkin for PSP

JavoEdge already made screen protectors for the PSP, now they make a silicone case as well. Read the review to find out whether it's as good as the JavoScreen.

Javoskin-120We’ve already reviewed plenty of silicone cases for the PSP here at PSPworld, but the JavoSkin for PSP is the first to claim that it doesn’t pick up dust. Since one of the complaints we’ve had about almost all the other silicone cases we’ve reviewed is they collect dust and random particles too easily, we were excited to try out this new entry to the PSP case market.

Upon arrival, we could tell out of the packaging that this was nothing like the earlier silicone cases we’ve reviewed. The outer skin of the JavoEdge has a smooth, silky feel to it. The case, “Metallic Silver” in color, was as smooth as any leather case we’ve reviewed thus far, and attracted nearly zero dust and errant particles. The smooth surface really helped our hands feel comfortable on the PSP as we played it in the case, and also helped keep away the threat of sweaty hands.

Javoskin-Front-550

The JavoSkin design is very close to being a complete collage of the previous designs we’ve seen. The front is only open for the screen and for access to the headphone, remote, and power ports. We at first thought there was a cutout for the Memory Stick slot as well, but after trying it we realized it was cut a bit short. It immediately seemed like a design fault, until we realized that the cut of the hole was a necessity to keep a tight fit on the PSP. You can still get to the Memory Stick, but it’s really a tight squeeze. You can also access the power and Wi-Fi switches, the open switch, the UMD door, the IR port, and the USB port while the PSP is in the case, and the case fits the PSP well.

Javoskin-Back-550

During initial use, we noticed the analog stick hole was just a bit too small, but the problem quickly resolved itself, as the silicone around the buttons is so thin that it poses no problem to gameplay — in fact, the offending opening almost immediately opened up more, and never posed a problem again. The balance of protection against fingerprints and scratches and usability is almost perfect on this case. All of the important ports are still accessible, and the thickness of the silicone around the buttons is ideal — it really makes you forget it’s there during play, and that is a hallmark of a great case.

Javoskin-Top-550

Overall, the JavoEdge JavoSkin for PSP is one of the best silicone cases we’ve seen for the PSP. Its balance between protection and usability could be skewed a little more towards protection, but for how we like to use our PSPs it’s practically perfect. For the price, this case is a no brainer — and (at least for right now) it comes with a free UMD case as well. Highly recommended.

Javoskin-Power-550

Pros: Decent protection, silicone feels nice and doesn’t pick up dirt, PSP very usable in the case.

Cons: Hole for Memory Stick slot too small, access and usability come at the cost of reduced protection.
