Capdase s-Bracket Cases

Capdase brings us two options for nylon cases, but how different are they? We sort out the similarities and differences with this review.

Capdase-Twins-SmWe here at PSPworld normally don’t like reviewing two products at once — when we first started our product reviews, we decided that we wouldn’t do any reviews that contain more than one product or product rating. Then we received the S-Bracket Case and the Twins Case for PSP from Capdase, and we realized they needed to be in the same review.

Both of the cases feature the same black, water-resistant nylon outers, zippers, and padding on the inside of the top to protect the PSPs screen. Both cases feature belt loops and carabiners on the bottom, and both feature the s-Bracket mounting system. The system utilizes the top and bottom accessory holes on the PSP to secure it, and pads on the back of the bracket help protect the back of the PSP from scratching. This system allows the PSP to be stood up while still connected to the case, making it easy to swap out UMDs and allowing it to function as a stand of sorts. In fact, the twins case looks like a double-decker s-Bracket case. Well, that’s not far from the truth.

The Twins case is basically a s-Bracket case with a zipper and snap closure added to the bottom to connect it to a slightly larger case for gear. The bottom case has slots for two extra UMDs, two Memory Stick Duos, and space for the charger and possibly some headphones. This gear bag is easily detachable from the s-Bracket portion by undoing the zipper and snaps that secure the two together, and easily re-attachable by reversing the process.

Capdase-Twins-MdAs for protection, the cases offer fairly good protection for the PSP. the nylon outer keeps the random raindrop or accidental spill from getting to the PSP, and the padding on the top is a great addition to help protect the screen. Unfortunately, protection on the sides of the PSP isn’t nearly as good, even with the case closed. There isn’t any lining protecting the sides of the PSP from the inside of the zipper, and we can see where that might cause some minor scratching on the sides. Apart from this minor complaint, this is a very protective case.

Like most PSP cases, the s-Bracket (and its detached Twins counterpart) was designed so that the PSP is usable whilst still connected to the case. Indeed, all the PSP’s ports and doors are accessible while in the bracket, but playability is a totally different story. If you plan on leaving the PSP in the case while playing, you basically can’t have the carabiner connected — it is uncomfortable at best, and we found it to throw off the PSP’s ergonomics. Otherwise, we found the PSP perfectly playable, if perhaps a bit unwieldy, while attached to the case.

Overall, both cases provide good protection for the PSP — and in the case of the Twins case, some accessories — for an affordable price. Concerns about the zipper aside, the case(s) offer about as much protection as any case we have reviewed thus far, and the belt loop and carabiner make attaching it to another bag an easy and convenient option. While not the best case in which to play an attached PSP, doing so wasn’t a bad experience — just not quite optimal. Nylon cases typically offer a good balance of protection and versatility, and these are no exception.

Pros: Good protection from the elements, easily detachable (Twins case), affordable.

Cons: No side protection from drops or the zippers, Twins case can be bulky and slightly heavy when crammed with accessories, Capdase logo on the top of case slightly unnecessary given the logo on the zipper.
