Tiger Woods PGA Tour is the franchises first appeance on the PSP. In Tiger, players create their own golfer and develop their skills in order to move up through the ranks and challenge both current and legendary tour players. The game features multiplayer play as well, including Playoff Round in Party Play mode and the Bingo Bango Bongo game type in Head-to-Head mode, both of which are unique to the PSP.
Our Impressions
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 spent untold hours in our PS2 when it came out, and we’d been jonesing to play a new version of the game. Fortunately, Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the PSP did not dissappoint — in fact, it improved upon our old favorite in several areas. Gameplay is very similar, with the intense PGA Tour mode (now called Legend Mode) being scaled down slightly for the portable platform. The controls are as solid as ever, and while they arguably require more skill than, say, Hot Shots, they also allow more precise control. Graphically the game is close to it’s 2004 counterpart — there are a couple cases of slowdown here and there, but overall the game is looks great.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour is a must for golf fans who want a “tour” experience on the go. The depth of the Legend Mode, combined with the more time-friendly Legend Challenges and multiplayer modes make this a game not to miss.
Pros: Stong graphics and sound, tremendous depth, authentic PGA license.
Cons: (Sometimes very) Long load times, ten dollars more than many other PSP games.

Review Round-Up:
GameSpot 8.2 (of 10)
“Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the PSP is, across the board, the best handheld golf game to date. Though it lacks the online play and a few other details found in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005, it’s actually a better game in some ways.”
IGN 7.6 (of 10)
“Tiger on-the-go. It’s a great golf game, but the analog swing system seems slightly forced. In the end, everything works, but EA could have used more time to polish things for the handheld world.”
GameSpy 4.0 (of 5)
“Given that it’s their first foray onto the PSP, the Tiger Woods PGA Tour development team did an impressive job, successfully managing to translate the franchise’s distinct feel from the console to the portable.”
Modojo 4.0 (of 5)
“It’s not perfect, as it lacks a little bit in some areas and could use a little boosting on the loading time, but it’s still the most comprehensive and enjoyable handheld version of the game yet.”
Aggregate Rating: 8.2 (out of 10)
