PSP UMD games cracked

May 5, 2005 - 08:48 PM

Software developers have figured out how to extract files from UMD game discs even though there is currently no way to play the extraced files.

"Some details of the exploit were posted Wednesday night on the Web site PS2nfo.com, along with lists showing all the files pulled off the game discs for Ridge Racers, Wipeout Pure and Vampire Chronicles," reports Reuters. "The games are not yet playable because there is no way to burn UMDs from scratch, and the PSP does not accommodate larger discs. However, the site said the ability to look through the games' file structures could still be instructive for developers."

Eric: The PSP has a feature for playing games off of the memory stick. There has to be a way to transfer them to the memory stick (mayber after converting them to a specific type of file) and play them. I've been converting full length movies ripped from DVD, however, the files are about 1.5 gb and I'll have to wait until the 2 gb cards drop in price.

PSX: ...here we go! "Backed up copies" of PSP games are just around the corner.
