EA launch games do not support online play

Apr 1, 2005 - 02:59 PM

Several EA launch games for the PSP do not support online (infrastructure) mode, despite clear labeling on their boxes saying otherwise. EA has stated that there was a misprint on the boxes, and that the games only support the multiplayer (Ad Hoc) mode.

"Unfortunately, there are no PSP titles at this time that support any online play," EA states on its customer support website. "There has been a misprint on all of the boxes for our launch titles and this mode is not supported. Although Infrastructure mode is not supported, the Ad Hoc multiplayer mode will work on all of our launch titles provided that each player has their own copy of the game."

According to Joystiq, the titles with the mislabeled boxes are Need For Speed Underground Rivals, NBA Street Showdown, FIFA Soccer, NFL Street 2 Unleashed, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour.

Comments

JP: So does this mean they are accepting returns from people who thought they were going to be able to play online?

Braden: I don't know... somebody should contact them though. This is quite a mistake.

Dan: I think they're using confusing language. Twisted Metal has both infrastructure and infrastructure LAN modes. usually when dealing with wi-fi, infrastructure means you connect to an access point instead of peer-to-peer (ad hoc) connection. unfortunately, infrastructure on the PSP gets interpreted as "internet play". not very intuitive to me (why don't they just call it internet play?)

Bill: I need someone to tell how good Twisted Metal or ATV Offroad Fury: BT is online. It sounds complicated...HELP!

Fleece: Twisted Metal is pretty damn fun online. Played a friends copy last night and am definitely considering buying it based solely on the internet play.
