Cheat mode
At the unlockables screen, press Circle to enter the cheats menu. Then, enter "SHOENLOC" as a code.

Better framerate
To increase the framerate and make the game run smoother, set the gamespeed to 0. This will slow the game down enough (but not make it too slow) and the framerate will be able to keep up with the action on-screen.
